KRAG-JØRGENSEN REVIEW, WITH FINNTROLL 1984 (MERCURY MAP BATTLEFIELD V) The Krag-Joergensen was designed in 1886 by 2 Norwegians named Ole Hermann Johannes Krag and Erik Joergensen. It was adopted as a standard arm by Denmark, USA and Norway and about 300 of them were delivered to Boer forces in South Africa as well. The gun went into service as a prototype in 1886 already, while service stopped in 1945. The effective firing range is 900 metres and the muzzle velocity is 580 m/s. It had different feed systems than a box mag, because the Krag allowed multiple cartridges to be dumped into its open magazine at once with no need for careful placement either. Once the mag door was closed, the cartridges would be forced into place to line up correctly. The rifle also had a magazine cut-off feature to make an easy switch from fully-automatic fire mode to smooth single-fire action in semi-auto mode. The reason why Krag started to design this weapon was to have a better gun than the earlier adopted Jarmann rifles and one of the early prototypes was sent to Denmark in 1886. Still it took until 1889 before Denmark officially adopted the fully-updated version of the Krag-Joergensen. USA and Norway received the same guns but with a few changes in key areas, such as the use of an outer steel liner for the barrel. When the German Wehrmacht invaded Denmark on April 9, 1940, the guns were confiscated and retagged under the name ScharfSchützen-Gewehr 312.
