Conflicts go back for centuries but on July 25, 1894, the Sino-Japanese War broke loose for control over Korea. After 6 months of Japanese success, the Qing-Empire agreed to a peace treaty and on April 17, 1895, Korea was submitted to the atmosphere of The Japanese Empire. USA introduced an Open Door Policy to keep trade with China at an equal base for all countries but it was a disguise to exploit China. In 1904, Japan began the Russo-Japanese War for the region of Mantsuria and also for more control over Korea. By September 5, 1905, The Russian Empire was defeated. Korea became a protectorate of Japan but saw its government flee to Chinese exile in 1910. From that point on until the end of WW II, Korea belonged to Japan. At the end of WW I, Japan assisted the Allied Entente and Hirohito became the new Emperor in 1926. He was present for most meetings but many decisions were made by his ministers without Hirohito's approval. He would continue to live an isolated luxurious life away from the public. In 1931, Japan had begun to invade China again and after a decade, they still had not conquered the vast countrysides of West China. Hideki Tojo had been promoted to Staff Chief of the Kanto Army in 1937 for his leadership of the Kempeitai (secret police). He became Minister of War in February, 1941, and Prime Minister in October, 1941. However, in 1940 they had been sabotaged by USA after the French domains in Indochina were conquered. USA introduced a trade sanction for airplane fuel and scrap iron. On top of that, the US base in the Philippine Islands was reinforced with B-17 bombers mid 1941. Without resources for its air industry, Japan lost its hold of Indochina but on on December 7, 1941, the legendary Plan Z would bring a retaliation upon USA. Japan turned its eye on the colonies in South East Asia. A message was broadcasted that military operations would take place and nobody would be allowed to intervene. In the following hours, Japan attacked Siam (Thailand), Guam, Malaya, Singapore and the Philippines. The US Fleet, stationed in the Hawaiian base of Pearl Harbor, had to be dealt with. On 7 December of 1941, Admiral Yamamoto gave the order to attack with the Japanese Airforce and 6 aircraft carriers, to keep the humongous battleships Musashi and Yamato out of the battles. By not officially declaring war on USA before attacking the base, Japan violated the code of war. 2,402 American troops were killed in this 2-hour morning mission. 65 Japanese soldiers lost their lives and 29 airplanes were destroyed. USA saw 188 destroyed and 155 damaged aircraft. 5 of the 8 US battleships sunk. President Roosevelt declared war on Japan on December 8, 1941. Germany declared war on USA for their deliverance of supplies to the UK from the Philippines, and later Japan made a pact with Nazi Germany and Italy. finntroll 1984: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1sG...
