On June 28, 1914, the Austro-Hungarian Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo by a nationalist Serbian, so on July 28 Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. The Russian Empire joined Serbia, the Germans joined Austria-Hungary. In August 1914, France pledged allegiance to Russia on its own request and opened the West Front. Germany declared war on France, invaded Belgium via Eben-Emael and saw Great Britain declare war on Kaiser Wilhelm. Between September 6-12, 1914, there was the Battle of the Marne in Paris with a German defeat and a Race To The Sea, creating the Yser Front. Trench Warfare began with vast areas of No Man's Land in between. In October 1914, the Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers to control the seas between South France and Russia. In March 1915, Britain and France attacked Gallipoli (Turkey) under command of Minister of Navy Winston Churchill in the Dardanelles Campaign, resulting in heavy defeat due to insufficient terrain knowledge and fierce resistance. Soldiers were withdrawn mid October with 100,000 British, French and Commonwealth troops KIA. On May 7, 1915, a German U-boat sank RMS Lusitania because of a British blockade. US President Woodrow Wilson investigated it while Germany claimed a mistake and got away with a warning. In 1916, Bulgaria joined the Central Powers, connecting Austria-Hungary to Turkey, to bring the desired Baghdad connection a step closer. From July 1, 1916 until November 18, 1916 there was the Battle of the Somme (Pas-de-Calais, North France). The largest battle in WW I history with 1.2 million troops KIA! The Allied Entity secured the beach and introduced the British Mark I tanks on September 15. They needed 7 weeks for victory and conquered 6 miles of No Man's Land! Germany started to focus on submarine warfare. On April 6, 1917, USA declared war on Germany for incessible U-boat attacks, Japan joined as British colony. On November 6, 1917, the Battle of Cambrai began, where 400 Mark I tanks defeated German forces. Remaining troops fled behind the Siegfried Line, aka Hindenburg Line. On November 17, 1917, the Second Battle of Jerusalem began, where 8 Mark I tanks defeated the Central Powers. But in December 1917 the Russian Empire was forced to sign an armistice after defeat. Between December 26-30, 1917, Mark IV tanks established an everlasting allied victory during the Defence of Jerusalem. In March 1918, Germany got a few victories in France because the Siegfried Line was a success but in August 1918, during the Battle of Amiens, new Mark V tanks erradicated the remaining German resistance. By November 1918, both Austria-Hungary and Germany had been defeated so the war officially ended on November 11, 1918. In January 1919, the Versailles Treaty was agreed by the allies but Germany signed it 6 months later. finntroll 1984: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1sG...
