finntroll 1984 CAPE HELLES & ACHI BABA: ANZAC DAY (FINN'S WAR TALES #2B WW I BATTLEFIELD 1) The Turning Tides expansion pack for BF1 has arrived, if you have the Season Pass that is. The 2 maps included are Cape Helles, with fort sedd-el-Bahr, and Achi Baba's heights that protect the city of Krithia. During the Gallipoli Campaign, that lasted from February 17 of 1915 until January 9 of 1916, the Cape Helles landing was a plan to conquer the adjacent heights of Achi Baba and to capture the important village of Krithia in order to clear out all the forts guarding the Dardanelles Strait. During the Dardanelles Campaign between February and March a total of 100,000 troops had lost their lives already, and double that amount were wounded. The Brits landed at Cape Helles on April 25, while French troops landed in Kum Kale (aka Kumkale) on the Asian side and ANZAC troops landed in Gaba Tepe (aka Anzac Cove) in the north. ANZAC was formed in Egypt in December, 1914, and was an army corps of Australians and New Zealanders. April 25 is seen as the most important day to commemorate veterans in Australia and New Zealand, and even surpasses the November 11 Rememberance Day. Around 900 ANZAC combatants died at Gaba Tepe that day, with around 2,000 wounded. The Turks saw around 2,000 killed and wounded during the Battle of Anzac Cove and another 1,735 victims during the Battle of Kum Kale, where 786 French casualties and losses were counted. ANZAC was disbanded in 1916, after having helped the Brits in France, West Flanders and Gallipoli. In WWII, ANZAC was reestablished to fight in Greece, Asia, North Africa and Italy. The last ever participation from ANZAC came during the Vietnam War. However, the landing in April 1915 was totally mismanaged by Major General Aylmer Hunter-Weston and the first day objectives were never met. 6,500 troops were killed or wounded on April 25 and 26! 4 different Battles of Krithia took place between April 28 and mid August but the city was never reached. Also The Russian Empire had a part in the Gallipoli Campaign, because the Dardanelles Strait offered a sea route to Russia. Constantinople, today known as Istanbul, was the objective for the Russians. This major victory for the Ottoman Empire was a once-in-a-lifetime achievement because after that, there were no more Turkish victories. In 1917, the Second Dardanelles Campaign and adjacent battles for Jerusalem were more prosperous for the allied troops. finntroll 1984: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1sG...
