STEN GUN REVIEW, WITH FINNTROLL 1984 (BATTLEFIELD V) Name: Sten gun Designed: 1940 by Reginald Shepherd and Harold Turpin Produced: starting 1941 Manufacturer: RSAF (Enfield), BSA (Birmingham) & others Number built: 3.7m-4.6m Firing range: 110 yards (100m) Fire rate: 500-600 rpm The Sten gun is a blowback-operated open bolt SMG, meaning it's a self-loading gun that obtains energy from the motion of the cartridge case as it is pushed to the rear by expanding gas. This gas is created by the ignition of the propellant charge, a chemical substance used in the production of energy or pressurized gas. Propellants are made of fuels and an oxidizer, so they are burned or decomposed. Most manufacturers were based in the UK but also the Canadian Long Branch company in Ontario made Sten guns. The Sten was used in lots of Asian conflicts after WWII, but also in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. This was a part of the Palestine War, fought between 1947 and 1949. Before the escalation of violence, there had been a Jewish insurgency from 1944 until late 1947. More Jews were coming to British Palestine after WWII, much to the regret of the Arabs. A military coalition of Arab states fought in the newly declared state of Israel between May 15 of 1948 until March 10 of 1949. Apart from the British Mandate of Palestine, that had been established in 1920, also the Sinai peninsula and southern Lebanon were war locations. Israel prevailed against Egypt and Palestinian Arabia, leading up to the Armistice Agreement of 20 July 1949. Also Jordan had seen partial victory as a part of the Arab attackers. Other members of the Arab League were Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. 60,000 Arab combatants fought against 117,500 Israeli fighters, with losses of 4,000 combatants and 2,400 civilians.
